INTERJÚK

Email interview with Jyrki from The 69 Eyes

This is an email interview with Jyrki. Thanks to him for the opportunity!

Back In Blood was released at the end of August in Europe last year. In 2008 you mentioned, it would be all about vampires. How do you decide what your next album should be about?

Jyrki: It's going to be a psychedelic biker rock album!

I was a bit surprised at the new album, because I thought it would be more gothic than Devils or Angels were. You said, Matt Hyde's favourite 69 Eyes album was Blessed Be. But I think this album is a mixture of your whole work. What is your opinion of it?

Jyrki: Pretty much like that - there's a lot of glam and a lot of dark rock as well as! I think it's the best album we've ever done - if somebody has never heard of The 69 Eyes before, they should start from that!

I think, the show at Whisky A Go Go in 2006 is very important to you. Because we can find it in some of your materials (Angels with bonus DVD, Hollywood Kills CD, Back in Blood Vampire edition). Why is or was this performance so important?

Jyrki: I guess it was more important for the record company which paid for capturing it on tape, haha! But actually I'm glad it was filmed since it was a GREAT show and felt like homecoming for The 69 Eyes for the first time alive in Hollywood, precisely 40 years later than The Doors played their first show at the same venue!

Your lyrics often seem to be inspired by movies or books. We can find some of them on Back in Blood as well. I'm afraid you have already told everything about these songs and movies, but I still have some questions.

Jyrki: Don't be afraid!

Kiss Me Undead.
There is a line: "When you're six feet under, with a Dracula's breath". Who is your favourite Dracula? Béla Lugosi, Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman or Gerald Butler...

Jyrki: Who's Gerald Butler? Christopher Lee is the coolest and scariest at the same time, when Béla Lugosi is lovable and mysterious...

Lips of Blood (Levres de sang) is a movie by Jean Rollin from 1975. But what is the connection between a vampire movie and a song by Paul Anka?

Jyrki: Haha, you and your questions! This is a mystery that you have to solve yourself! Don't ask from Dan Brown!

You said about The Good The Bad and The Undead that it was the Halloween party song of 2009. And after The Cramps, you could be the next Halloween party band. Then can I invite you to a Halloween party?

Jyrki: OK!

Is Dead Girls Are Easy a distorting mirror to teenage gothic girls who want to pose looking dead?

Jyrki: Or about teenage "Twilight" fans who want to be dead with Edward Cullen...

Michael Jackson's videos have affected the video of Dead Girls are Easy, too. What do you think of Jacko?

Jyrki: He was the coolest! "This Is It" is a great movie!

Your latest video (Dead N' Gone) was directed by Bam again. Why did you choose him? I just ask it because there are some people who think you should find another director.

Jyrki: He is the coolest and the most fun to do videos with. He also understands our visions perfectly. I think "Dead N' Gone" is the best 69 Eyes video ever! He's like the 6th member of the band!

I think, Hunger evokes the atmosphere of the movie very well. I like the piano in this song very much. Who is your favourite vampire lady?

Jyrki: You can't go wrong with Catherine Deneuve! Forever and ever...

Suspiria snow white.
Have you seen Snow White: A Tale of Terror starring Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neill?

Jyrki: No!

Eternal.
Well, my most favourite vampire movie is Interview with the vampire. I think Tom Cruise was perfect as Lestat. But what is your opinion of Queen of the Damned?

Jyrki: It's cool alright, some great scenes and the music of course on it is fantastic!

"We Own The Night" can be found on the soundtrack for SAW VI. Do you like horror movies like Saw?

Jyrki: Yeah, but it's enough that SAW sequels come only once a year...

What makes a good horror movie?

Jyrki: When it makes you forget the reality for a while.

How long have you been interested in the history of vampires?

Jyrki: I'm the history of vampires! I read the books back in the 80's...

Which is your most favourite vampire movie?

Jyrki: Fright Night.

I think you have seen Lost Boys 2. Did you like it?

Jyrki: It's strange because it looks like it's a remake of OUR music video for "Lost Boys" - it has a guy with a skeleton jacket, guitar riff rock (like our "Lost Boys") and even this Bam lookalike skater dude! They actually asked Bam to be in the movie but he refused!

Is it a good idea to make series of classical movies like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm street, Friday the 13th?

Jyrki: If they are good, why not! I liked the new Texas Chainsaw (maybe because of Jessica Biel's so hot...) and Halloween...
